Jihlava Intergenerational Meeting Accompanied by the CSH Conference
02/11/2021The autumn period has always been marked by preparations for the Intergenerational Meeting in previous years. It fosters mutual understanding, respect, breaks down barriers and prejudices, but above all brings joy regardless of age. Both organisations — the Czech Hemophilia Society and Hemojunior — have decided to invite all members to Jihlava again, from 26 to 28 November. Despite the not overly optimistically developing situation and in light of new anti-epidemic measures, we firmly believe that we will ultimately meet face to face. The EA Business Hotel will once again provide us with a venue, where the CSH Conference with the election of new leadership will also take place at the conclusion of the Intergenerational Meeting. It goes without saying how important this event is, and therefore we would like to invite all of you most cordially. For those of you who will not be able to attend the Intergenerational Meeting, we would like to note that the CSH Conference is planned for Sunday, 28 November, starting at 9:00 AM.

World Hemophilia Day 2021 in the Virtual World
12/04/2021Dear friends, in just a few days we will again celebrate World Hemophilia Day. Every year on 17 April, we use this occasion to raise awareness of haemophilia and von Willebrand disease among the general public. This year, the situation once again does not allow us to celebrate the day with an in-person gathering. As last year, we would like to invite you to join the celebrations at least in the online space. Send us your photo by Saturday showing how you celebrate this day with the characteristic red colour. We will again publish your photos throughout Saturday on our Facebook page. We place no limits on your imagination and creativity!

Adult Rehabilitation Retreat — This Time in the Vysočina Region
26/01/2021As we hinted in the article recapping the last retreat, we are once again changing the location. This time not for capacity reasons, but due to insufficient service and failure to meet conditions on the part of the operator. We did not have many options and opted for Hotel Bystré in the Vysočina region, not far from Polička. Hopefully, this time we have chosen correctly. The communication so far and a visit to the hotel suggest we have. We will once again have the entire hotel at our disposal, with 20 rooms and a total capacity of approximately 50 people. We will have free access to a saltwater pool, and a whirlpool, sauna, fitness room, and common room will also be available. Full board will be provided as before. And rehabilitation will of course not be missing either.

ATTENTION, DATE CHANGE! The camp will take place from 21 to 31 August 2021 at the well-known Zubří Recreation Centre near Nové Město na Moravě. You can look forward to the proven team of counsellors and medical staff from previous years; Michael Bereň takes over the camp leadership baton and will be the head counsellor from next year onwards.

Autumn Rehabilitation Retreat for Adults Took Place in the Třeboň Region
02/12/2020Due to spring government restrictions, we were forced to postpone the rehabilitation retreat for adult hemophilia patients to the turn of summer and autumn. Just before departure, we were once again worried whether everything would take place and under what conditions. In the end, however, almost everything worked out. The change of date and health complications of some registrants meant we did not fill the facility's capacity and did not beat last year's record in the number of participants. Even so, 40 people is a very respectable number. Nearly half were hemophilia or Von Willebrand patients. And if we include carriers in the count of hemophilia patients, we exceeded the halfway mark.

Prague Will Light the Petřín Lookout Tower in Red
16/04/2020Every year on 17 April we observe World Hemophilia Day to raise awareness about hemophilia, von Willebrand disease, and other blood clotting disorders. This is its main purpose, because with increased awareness comes better diagnosis and access to treatment for thousands of people. The motto of this year's World Hemophilia Day is "Get + involved." Whether you are hemophilia patients yourselves, affected by von Willebrand disease, family members, a corporate partner, volunteer, or anyone who sympathizes with our Society, we want to encourage you to help raise awareness about the disease.

Summer camp moves to the Lužnice river valley
13/01/2020In the summer of 2020, the Summer Haemophilia Camp will take place towards the end of the holidays, from 15 to 29 August. The event is once again moving to a new location -- this time we have chosen the Lužnice Recreation Centre (https://www.rsluznice.cz/), situated near Tábor in South Bohemia. The facility will offer us comfortable cabins for accommodation, plenty of outdoor space on the riverbank, sufficient amenities, yet surrounded by nature. Vojtěch Horník remains the head counsellor, and the medical and physiotherapy aspects will be ensured by proven staff.

Adult Rehabilitation Retreat in the Třeboň Area
13/01/2020Next year we are once again changing the location of the adult rehabilitation retreat. This time we will head to the Třeboň area and from 19 to 26 September 2020 we will visit Hotel Nežárka (https://www.hotel-nezarka.cz/). The hotel has its own swimming pool, which will again be reserved exclusively for us, and offers 20 rooms. That is 3 more than this year. We believe we will be able to accommodate all those interested in the retreat.

Jihlava Intergenerational Meeting — Not Just About News in Hemophilia Treatment
26/11/2019In November, the seventh meeting of the Czech Hemophilia Society and Hemojunior took place at the EA Business Hotel in Jihlava. The pleasant premises provided a suitable venue for gaining new enriching knowledge and social gatherings for exchanging experiences. The professional programme met our expectations as always — both the Friday lecture on lower limb axis correction by orthopaedist Petr Teyssler, accompanied by numerous photographs, and the personal experiences of young hemophilia patient Lovre Šuta with the myPKFIT mobile application received positive feedback. The varied programme continued with Saturday's thought-provoking lecture by psychologist Petra Bučková and physiotherapist Marie Katzerová on pain in coagulation disorders, the witty and encouraging talk by another psychologist David Bystrický, and last but not least, new information on hemophilia treatment options from haematologist Jan Blatný.

Hemophilia in Jihlava Again This Year
19/09/2019We would like to inform members of the Czech Hemophilia Society and Hemojunior that the next intergenerational meeting of people with hemophilia and their loved ones will take place in November, again in Jihlava. For several years, both associations have been organising generational meetings aimed at helping not only members, but everyone dealing with hemophilia and von Willebrand disease, to navigate all related issues. And also their partners, parents, friends -- in short, anyone who is interested. Everything is being prepared for 15-17 November at the EA Business Hotel. The main programme is traditionally scheduled for Saturday, but already on Friday evening we will be able to learn a number of new developments in the fields of orthopaedics and haematology. Conference rooms, salons for group and individual meetings, demonstrations of individual rehabilitation, proper factor administration and vein care, and many other interesting activities will be available. Professional childcare will be provided for small children if needed.

Adult Rehabilitation Retreat in Rokytnice, Orlické Hory
01/07/2019During the week from 18 to 25 May, another rehabilitation retreat for adult haemophilia patients took place. At this new venue too, we ran into capacity limitations and registration for the retreat had to be closed as early as February. For those who attended, however, Penzion Rokytenka offered a pleasant setting and a beautiful environment not only within the property grounds but also in the surrounding area. At this point, we are deciding whether to return here next year or take advantage of another option with a higher capacity. And how did we spend our week in Rokytnice? The contribution from Radim, who participated in the retreat for the first time, says it all. We thank him for his lines below and look forward to further gatherings together. Once Up, Once Down (Below)
31/05/2019On the last Saturday of April, it was time to descend into the depths of the Anselm mine at Landek Park in Ostrava-Petřkovice. Landek is a hill in Ostrava, and not just any hill. It is a world-renowned locality in terms of geology, archaeology, history, natural science, and mining. From early morning it was clear that something was being prepared in the local compressor hall. From almost every corner of the country, participants dressed in red gradually began to arrive to share a day full of discovery and fun. All of this in connection with World Haemophilia Day, which we commemorate every year on 17 April. The majority were naturally local members of the Czech Hemophilia Society and Hemojunior — those from Ostrava, including the physician and nurse from the Ostrava haemophilia centre.

We Observe World Hemophilia Day
16/04/2019World Hemophilia Day falls on 17 April and its main goal is to raise public awareness about hemophilia and other related blood clotting disorders and to gain attention and understanding for them. Thanks to the efforts of patient organizations from around the world, access to care is gradually improving even for those who still remain without treatment. Its history dates back to 1989 and the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) chose 17 April in honour of the birthday of its founder Frank Schnabel. The WFH was founded in 1963 and is headquartered in Montreal, Canada, currently registering 140 member countries across all continents.

We have decided to invite members of both organizations to Landek Park in Ostrava, where we will once again commemorate the day dedicated to hemophilia patients around the world. On 17 April 2019, it will be thirty years since the World Federation of Hemophilia, in honor of the birth of Frank Schnabel, its founder, designated this date as World Hemophilia Day. During this period, the whole world dresses in red, prominent buildings in world capitals are illuminated, and various happenings, press conferences, and social gatherings of those connected with hemophilia take place. The Czech Republic is not lagging behind in this regard.

Summer Camp Information Update
20/02/2019Due to the sudden closure of the Zubri Recreation Centre, which we reported on in early February, we were forced to seek an alternative way to hold the 2019 Summer Haemophilia Camp. The good news is that we have found a solution and the camp will take place, but we had to make several compromises. The key change is the new camp dates — it will now run from July 28 to August 8, 2019. This is a shortened period from Sunday to Thursday; instead of the traditional two weeks, the camp will last 11 days. The location remains in the Vysocina region — Pension Safrankuv Mlyn (www.safrankuvmlyn.cz) will host us. Accommodation will this time be in a building, but the grounds will provide ample opportunities for outdoor activities (the facility is situated in a secluded spot surrounded by nature), as well as space for medical facilities and physiotherapy, including a private swimming pool.

Complications with the 2019 Summer Haemophilia Camp
03/02/2019We have recently received information from the Zubří Recreation Centre that they are forced to cancel all summer stays at the facility for operational reasons, meaning that our summer haemophilia camp cannot take place there either. We are currently working intensively to secure an alternative venue. We will do everything possible to change only the location and not the dates; however, given the relatively short time remaining until the summer holidays, we are not able to guarantee anything at this moment. Registration for the camp is still open — you can find the registration form at this link.

All Generations of Haemophilia Patients Gathered in Jihlava
15/10/2018The intergenerational meeting of haemophilia patients and their closest ones holds a special place in our calendar. Nobody doubted that interest would be great again this year. The topics clearly invited it. Nearly one hundred and fifty participants filled the pleasant premises of the EA Business Hotel in Jihlava to learn about the latest developments in not only the haemophilia world. This time, the Society also made room for people with von Willebrand disease. Unfortunately, interest from members with this condition was almost nil. And so the entire programme focused on haemophilia-related topics.

26/08/2018On the last June evening of 2018, a total of 34 Greek citizens were invited to a great feast in Kalipolis, held in the presence of the ancient Olympic gods, and which marked the beginning of a two-week contest for the favour of Zeus, Hades, Poseidon, and the other Olympian gods. Yes, we are of course talking about the annual summer haemophilia camp, once again held in Zubří in the Vysočina region, which this year was thematically set in the spirit of ancient Greece.

Once again, we decided to dedicate an entire weekend to this event and give you the opportunity to spend more time together. 30/05/2018During the week of 11–19 May, another edition of the rehabilitation retreat for adult hemophilia patients took place. Most likely for the last time in a while at the Ohrada guesthouse in Vísky near Letovice. While the guesthouse meets practically all our requirements for holding this retreat, the general consensus is that it is time for a change. We are currently searching intensively for a suitable location and for now it looks like next year we will head to the Orlické hory mountains. Jarek Trefil shared his impressions from the retreat. 20/04/2018Saturday 14 April was a much-anticipated day for members of the Society and Hemojunior. Sharing Knowledge and Experience Makes Us Stronger
18/04/2018World Hemophilia Day has been commemorated every year since 1989 on 17 April -- the birthday of Frank Schnabel, founder of the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH). Frank Schnabel (himself a person with haemophilia) founded it in 1963 at a meeting of representatives of six national haemophilia societies in Copenhagen. World Hemophilia Day provides haemophilia families and their loved ones with an opportunity to introduce the public to this disease, its challenges, and to share experiences with friends, colleagues, healthcare workers, neighbours, and others, and to find understanding and support. During World Hemophilia Day, people showing solidarity with haemophilia patients wear the colour red, and WFH member organisations join the global "Light It Up Red" project. Red is the symbol of this blood disorder.

We will celebrate it together for the tenth time, this year slightly in advance, on Saturday, 14 April 2018. Since the exhibitions are fully covered, we do not need to worry about bad weather.

Following the Tracks of the Oslavany Permons...
05/05/2017Just a few kilometres southwest of Brno lies an area that this year became a refuge for all those who decided to come and celebrate World Hemophilia Day. A day full of relaxation, discovery, fun, victories, and adventure awaited them. We're talking about the Permonium amusement park. It was created based on Oslavany legends on the grounds of the former Kukla coal mine, where six mysterious permons (mine spirits) have lived since ancient times - Starohorský, Bouchal, Zaklášterský, Vinohradský, Kovářova kopce, and Kopce Koblihu. The park is suitable not only for families with children, but visitors of all ages can find something enjoyable here. And so, once again after a year, traditionally thanks to Novo Nordisk, we had the opportunity to meet "our own" and experience an extraordinary day full of adventures and new discoveries.

Together again, albeit elsewhere
26/10/2016Many members and supporters of the association have grown accustomed to meeting each autumn at the "Together about Haemophilia" event. In recent years, everything took place at the Jezerka Hotel in Eastern Bohemia, but variety is the spice of life. In cooperation with long-standing partner Shire (formerly Baxalta, before that Baxter), CSH prepared a programme at a hotel by the Aquacentre in Čestlice – just outside Prague, right by the D1 motorway. The programme itself can hardly be reinvented; it is more about what fills the familiar framework. There is always an effort at renewal, but the foundation remains – delivering the latest information needed by everyone, keeping them up to date with developments and the outlook for care, and last but not least, answering as many questions as possible from participants.

Together again
04/09/2016Where and about what? About haemophilia again, as in the three previous autumns, but this time not at Hotel Jezerka near Chrudim, but at Aquapark Čestlice near Prague, practically right on the D1 motorway. Mark the date 21 to 23 October 2016! The foundation is once again the Saturday professional programme, with experts from several fields bringing the latest news. Physicians -- haematologists Peter Salaj from UHKT Prague and Jan Blatný from the Children's Hospital Brno, orthopaedist Petr Teyssler, dentist Eva Zapletalová, physiotherapist Marie Katzerová, and social affairs specialist Marcela Štáfová. Regular attendees already know them all. Specialists in psychology and cardiology are also being negotiated, and on Friday evening there will be an opportunity to meet hepatologist Petr Urbánek, with whom we have been cooperating for several years. An especially interesting topic at a time when new developments in the treatment of hepatitis C are being loudly discussed.

A Successful Change
31/05/2016The regular May rehabilitation retreat is already behind us for this year. As we announced in advance, this time it was in a different setting than in previous years. Not only did we move from Lednice after five years, but for the first time in the history of these stays we also moved away from a spa town. The Ohrada guesthouse in Vísky u Letovic was to replace it. It offers everything we need for our purposes, including meeting rooms, rehabilitation facilities, a swimming pool, and whirlpools. Including accommodation all under one roof. Comfort thus increased not only for the organizers, who did not have to prepare breakfast every morning, but also for participants, as they no longer had to walk anywhere. We especially appreciated this on days when the weather was not on our side.

Advanced School of Haemophilia
09/05/2016The regional seminars for patients registered at individual centres have reached Prague. Invitations were sent to those who attend the Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion (ÚHKT) and the children's centre at Motol. Once again with the support of Baxalta (formerly Baxter), they gathered at the Andel's Hotel in Smíchov, near the Anděl metro station. The programme remained traditional, but the content turned out to be somewhat unconventional. Although the format was also slightly different - this time participants did not have to give up a weekend, but rather a Wednesday afternoon. This proved to be a good choice, as not everyone - whether invited experts or attendees - is willing to sacrifice an entire day off.

For the Eighth Time, and Different Again
08/03/2016We are talking about the celebrations of World Haemophilia Day, which falls on 17 April every year and is commemorated by the haemophilia community worldwide. From the early medieval experience at the Zeměráj adventure park, our steps will lead us further north, and the next stop will be the Baroque Loučeň Castle in the Nymburk district. One of the few available dates was Saturday, 23 April, and so on that day the castle will belong not only to the members of the Czech Hemophilia Society and Hemojunior, but also to their loved ones.

Registration Is Still Open for the Reconditioning Stay for Adult Haemophilia Patients...
14/01/2016As you have surely noticed in the events plan, this year brings a change of location for the reconditioning stay for adult haemophilia patients. After five years in Lednice, we decided to look for a new location, even though we were very satisfied with the current one. The change involves not only the choice of town but also the fact that for the first time we will not be in a spa town.

Summer Haemophilia Camp 2016
25/12/2015The camp is still more than half a year away, but we are already bringing you the first more specific information and registration instructions. We have already announced the camp dates -- this time it will take place from 2 to 16 July 2016 at the Zubří Recreation Centre in the Vysočina Highlands. You can mark these two weeks in your diaries and look forward to them.

Meeting of Generations for the Third Time
28/10/2015The autumn-coloured surroundings of Hotel Jezerka welcomed participants to another intergenerational meeting entitled "We Are Here for You." Once again, we were met with a warm reception and top-level services. The dry summer caused the water level of the Seč Reservoir to drop dramatically, but the same cannot be said about the number of participants. Although the attendance did not exceed last year's record, interest was again strong. Around eighty participants of all age groups could look forward to a range of new information from experts in several specialisations, practical demonstrations and exercises related to the previous lectures, wellness, and above all, different generations of those who share something in common with haemophilia met here.

Good News -- The Summer Children's Camp Continues
13/10/2015The information published in the minutes of the Czech Hemophilia Society Council meeting on 25 August 2015, stating that this year's summer camp was the last one for Martin Bohun as head counselor, raised concerns. Will the camp continue? Will this long-standing showcase of the Society come to an end? The answer to the first question is yes, and to the second, no. We are very pleased that the camp will take place again next year, led by Vojtech Hornik. No fundamental changes to its format are expected.

Journey with the Little Prince
30/08/2015Almost everyone knows the book The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, whether child or adult. The book is full of beautiful quotes about life, love, and friendship, and many of us know some of the sayings by heart. In recent days, the 2015 haemophilia camp ended and with it our shared journey with the Little Prince. This year's camp-wide game was inspired by Exupery's most famous literary character and the adventures he experienced.

When Autumn Asks
16/06/2015...what the Society was doing in spring and summer, we can answer that, for example, it was preparing the third edition of the gathering "We Are Here for You." Yes, it is now confirmed — Hotel Jezerka in Sec u Chrudimi awaits Society guests on October 23 and 24. The welcoming and elegant setting of the recreational hotel has already earned recognition over the past two editions. Thanks to the Baxter company, several dozen members of CSH and Hemojunior and their supporters gather here. They can look forward to a range of new information from specialists in several fields, practical demonstrations and exercises on the topics of the preceding lectures, a wellness environment, and above all, the opportunity for different generations of those connected to haemophilia to meet again.

Renewed Interest
28/05/2015After a period of decline, a turnaround has come -- interest in the adult rehabilitation retreat has grown. Sixteen people interested in rehabilitation gathered in Lednice in mid-May, filling the guesthouse to full capacity. The programme remained the same as in previous years, but it did bring certain innovations. Particularly in the quantity and the associated quality of the rehabilitation itself. There is a difference whether two or four physiotherapists attend to the participants. That is exactly what happened, as two additional therapists joined the two traditional rehabilitation specialists. They normally work at the Vráž spa, which has maintained close contact with the organisation for several years now, so we consider them highly qualified experts.

Through Paradise, Preferably Barefoot
12/05/2015The highlight of the World Hemophilia Day celebrations was undoubtedly the gathering of Czech Hemophilia Society and Hemojunior members at the Zeměráj adventure park. The medieval village near the Orlice Dam came alive on the last Saturday of April with more than one hundred and fifty participants, who enjoyed a number of extraordinary experiences across the nine-hectare grounds. Not only children could try making fabric from wool and linen, spin a potter's wheel, or learn how people slept in 12th-century huts. At the archaeological site, we sifted through sand to find pottery shards, bones, coins, jewellery, and necklace beads, and could keep some as souvenirs.

A Slightly Rippled Surface on the South Bohemian Pond
17/04/2015In terms of the life of the haemophilia community, one of the quietest regions in the Czech Republic is precisely the South Bohemian one. There are no activities here, and very few Society members come from this area. This is one of the reasons why the Society directed another instalment of its regional workshops here, with the aim of helping local colleagues. It assembled the usual team of experts and reserved a meeting at the Hotel Podhrad in Hluboka nad Vltavou for as broad an audience as possible. Two direct participants wish to share their impressions.

Invitation for All South Bohemians
27/02/2015For several years now, regional seminars have been organized by the Society with the aim of helping everyone dealing with hemophilia - not just members, but all who are affected by hemophilia - to navigate everything related to it. And also their partners, parents, friends - in short, anyone who is interested. In April, the meeting will take place in Hluboká nad Vltavou.

That is what this year's World Haemophilia Day promises. Come and try various games, puzzles, adventure tasks, or simply sit back and meet new and old friends in a realistically recreated setting of an early medieval village.

Lednice Again Next Year
23/12/2014As you already know, the next edition of the adult reconditioning program will also take place in Lednice. The dates are now confirmed as 15 to 23 May. There have been no changes in other organizational matters either. For those interested, we have prepared accommodation, breakfasts and lunches, individual rehabilitation (for hemophilia patients only), therapeutic baths, and a pool.

Summer Camp -- Back to Zubri Again
23/12/2014Dear campers, we are pleased to announce that the summer camp will take place as planned in 2015 as well. The Recreational Facility in Zubri in the Vysocina Highlands proved successful, so we have reserved it for the next two years. Next year we will return to the traditional two-week format, from 8 to 22 August. Those who plan to participate should keep this date in mind.

How We Met in Ostrava
01/12/2014The last major gathering of this year took place in northern Moravia, and the regional workshop attracted a truly large number of participants. Among them were two young members of the association who described everything they witnessed as follows. The original plan to use the facilities and services of the Klimkovice spa fell through, so we headed to the pleasant setting of the Imperial Hotel. Everything was organized in cooperation with the Hematology Department of Ostrava University Hospital and Baxter. Despite initial concerns about low registration numbers, what was probably the highest number of participants in the entire history of workshops attended.

13/10/2014In cooperation with the Hemophilia Center at Ostrava University Hospital and Baxter, we are organizing a regional meeting for colleagues in the Moravian-Silesian Region. Similar events have already been successfully held in the South Moravian, Liberec, and South Bohemian regions.

We Were Cheerful and Serious...
25/09/2014...but above all, for you. That was the name of the second edition of the gathering for all interested parties at the very nice Hotel Jezerka near Sec in eastern Bohemia. Last year the bar was set quite high, and this year — according to participant feedback — it was maintained. Defending is always far more difficult than starting. Once again, we can call the event a "meeting of generations." The age range covered virtually all categories and brought something for everyone. Again with an emphasis on the usefulness of the information provided, complemented by pleasant surroundings, an inviting wellness area, and hospitable treatment.

Zubří full of pirates and sailors
31/08/2014After years spent in the Beskydy Mountains, our camp moved a few kilometres further, to the Zubří recreational complex near Nové Město na Moravě. Here we spent just one week to try out the new environment and test our capabilities. The rich programme began on Saturday, 16 August, with an all-camp game launched by dividing the children and leaders into teams under the command of Baron Butterbrot Von Marmelade. In a themed setting, the Baron described his lifelong battle with the pirate Wilkinson and urged everyone present to help him find the way to the treasure, along with the promise of adventure on the shared journey.

Again in the beautiful surroundings of Hotel Jezerka in the Železné hory Protected Landscape Area by the Seč Reservoir, again with a rich programme. The only difference is that we will extend it by one day. We will meet as early as Friday morning, 19 September, and leave Jezerka on Sunday, 21 September.

Another Lednice Retreat Behind Us
29/05/2014Another traditional rehabilitation retreat for adults with physiotherapy, procedures, group discussions and evenings, barbecues — simply the right kind of relaxation that brings us together. Being in the Lednice-Valtice area, we also visited a wine cellar. With some sadness, we must note the repeated decline in the number of participants and the lack of interest from physiotherapists. We had been flagging the need for cooperation with new physiotherapists for a long time, but we were unable to attract anyone new. All the more thanks go to Alena and Naďa for joining us once again.

A Train Robbery with a Happy Ending
28/04/2014The end of April has traditionally been dedicated to World Hemophilia Day celebrations. This year, the celebrations took place on a larger scale than usual, as they were launched with a charity event in Prague held on 17 April itself. We have already reported on how it went, and you can recall it here. The second part of the celebrations then took place on Saturday 26 April, naturally with members of both the Czech Hemophilia Society and Hemojunior in attendance. Since some members of one or the other organization were apparently prevented from attending due to serious reasons (how else to explain someone voluntarily missing out on this exceptionally successful celebration), we bring you a brief report on how it went.

The Society Safely Back in Harbour
09/05/2013It navigated the challenges of the Bata Canal connected to the Morava River and, after several kilometres, returned to the harbour in Veseli nad Moravou. Not the entire Society, but those members and guests who came to celebrate this year's World Hemophilia Day. The actual date is in April, but since it can be windy on the water, the Society Council decided to postpone D-Day to May. It paid off -- the weather was very generous and after a long, persistent winter, it showed a friendly face to both sailors and passengers.

Ondrášův Dvůr Lived the Olympics
08/08/2012On a weekend in mid-July, counsellors, doctors, a nurse, physiotherapists, and most importantly 42 children gathered for the eighth time at the Beskid Mountains facility Ondrášův Dvůr to spend the traditional two weeks together at the summer hemophilia camp. This year's Olympic Games in London were a major event, and so our camp-wide game also had an Olympic theme. This was reflected in nearly every activity at the camp -- the counsellors represented the Olympic Committee, the children went to train at the training centre, health issues were handled by the sports physician, and carbohydrates, fats, and proteins were replenished by the athletes at the nutrition centre.
