A Successful Change
31/05/2016The regular May rehabilitation retreat is already behind us for this year. As we announced in advance, this time it was in a different setting than in previous years. Not only did we move from Lednice after five years, but for the first time in the history of these stays we also moved away from a spa town. The Ohrada guesthouse in Vísky u Letovic was to replace it. It offers everything we need for our purposes, including meeting rooms, rehabilitation facilities, a swimming pool, and whirlpools. Including accommodation all under one roof. Comfort thus increased not only for the organizers, who did not have to prepare breakfast every morning, but also for participants, as they no longer had to walk anywhere. We especially appreciated this on days when the weather was not on our side.

Advanced School of Haemophilia
09/05/2016The regional seminars for patients registered at individual centres have reached Prague. Invitations were sent to those who attend the Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion (ÚHKT) and the children's centre at Motol. Once again with the support of Baxalta (formerly Baxter), they gathered at the Andel's Hotel in Smíchov, near the Anděl metro station. The programme remained traditional, but the content turned out to be somewhat unconventional. Although the format was also slightly different - this time participants did not have to give up a weekend, but rather a Wednesday afternoon. This proved to be a good choice, as not everyone - whether invited experts or attendees - is willing to sacrifice an entire day off.

Nobody Got Lost. Hopefully.
26/04/2016Loučeň Chateau near Nymburk was truly buzzing on Saturday. Nearly 160 participants came to enjoy not only the atmosphere of the chateau grounds, knights' tales, the Kašpárek and witch puppet show, or broomstick flying lessons performed by witches Gertrůda and Ethel, but mainly to meet friends once again after a year and commemorate World Hemophilia Day. Thank goodness the meteorologists were wrong this time — despite a slight cooling, we spent most of the day in the adjacent chateau park.

Flying discs at the National Theatre
18/04/2016Immediately after the association meeting at Loučeň Castle, on Monday 25 April from half past two in the afternoon, a happening to raise awareness of haemophilia will take place in Prague on the terrace by the National Theatre. The event is primarily aimed at the general public, but that does not mean that association members and their supporters are not welcome. On the contrary, they are most welcome -- they can see many interesting things and also actively participate in various activities. The main attraction will be flying frisbee discs, with experienced players performing a range of remarkable tricks. And of course they will offer advice to those who want to try throwing the plastic discs themselves. In addition, a skilled artist will be on hand to draw a portrait or caricature of anyone interested.

Emergency Services Will (Hopefully) Be More Accommodating
14/03/2016At the last meeting of the coordination council of the Czech National Haemophilia Programme, of which the Czech Hemophilia Society is a member, there was discussion, among other things, about a certain shift in the relationship between doctors and paramedics serving with the emergency medical service, as well as hospital emergency department staff, towards haemophilia patients. The CSH Council has long been striving for better awareness and education among these healthcare workers, but so far with rather poor results. Now it seems that things are slowly beginning to move. The first sign was the participation of a haematologist at a national conference on emergency medicine and disaster medicine called "Pelhřimov Evening", where Ondřej Zapletal spoke before two hundred participants from the Czech Republic and Slovakia (more in the article "About Haemophilia at the Paramedics Conference"), and the next step is an initiative of the Czech National Haemophilia Programme (ČNHP).

For the Eighth Time, and Different Again
08/03/2016We are talking about the celebrations of World Haemophilia Day, which falls on 17 April every year and is commemorated by the haemophilia community worldwide. From the early medieval experience at the Zeměráj adventure park, our steps will lead us further north, and the next stop will be the Baroque Loučeň Castle in the Nymburk district. One of the few available dates was Saturday, 23 April, and so on that day the castle will belong not only to the members of the Czech Hemophilia Society and Hemojunior, but also to their loved ones.

These Are the Kind of Members We Have!
08/03/2016Very active, creative, and with their hearts in the right place. For example, Honza Rousar, who together with his friends organised a benefit concert on Sunday in aid of the Society, the entire proceeds of which, along with the amount raised from the sale of a special CD, will go to the CSH account. Both bear the name "Honza Rousar and Guests." Performers at the concert included Hana Robinson, Nada Valova, Eva Dvorakova, Veronika Bergmanova, Petra Svobodova, Gabriela Vermelho, Jiri Samal, Stepan Kloucek, Jakub Hubner, Vlasta Horvath with his band, and the revue group Olats Otesoc.
