Supplementary Information
The care allowance is intended for persons who cannot manage their basic life needs without the help of others. From the allowance provided, these persons pay for the assistance which, at their discretion, may be provided by a close family member, a social care assistant, a registered social service provider, a children's home, or a specialised hospice-type inpatient healthcare facility.
Conditions for entitlement to the care allowance
A person older than 1 year is entitled to the allowance if they are assessed as falling into one of four degrees of dependency, classified according to the number of basic life needs that the person is unable to manage without the help of others.
When assessing the degree of dependency, the ability to manage the following basic life needs is evaluated: mobility, orientation, communication, eating, dressing and putting on shoes, personal hygiene, toileting, health care, personal activities, and household care (the last is not assessed for persons under 18 years of age). A more detailed definition of the ability to manage basic life needs and the method of their assessment is set out in Decree No. 505/2006 Coll.
