Good News - The Summer Hemophilia Camp in 2024 Will Be in Zubri Again!

The uncertainty surrounding the location of the 2024 summer hemophilia camp has been resolved, and we are happy to announce to all participants that the next edition will take place at our tried-and-tested and beloved RS Jasenka complex in Zubri in the Vysocina region, from 21 July to 2 August 2024. Daniel Simek will once again be the head counselor, and medical supervision will again be provided by the University Hospital Brno under the leadership of doc. MUDr. Jan Blatny, Ph.D. and physiotherapist Mgr. Marie Katzerova.

We would like to thank the company STAREZ -- SPORT a.s., the City of Brno leadership, especially Mayor JUDr. Marketa Vankova and Brno city council member MUDr. Dagmar Seidlova, as well as all medical staff at the University Hospital Brno for their support and understanding during the decision-making process. Thanks to all of you, we can guide young people with hemophilia toward a more independent life with an emphasis on home treatment, which is essential to prevent spontaneous bleeding and consequent damage to the joints and musculoskeletal system. This helps us avoid the consequences faced by the older generation, who suffer from extensive joint problems and even disability due to insufficient treatment. The rehabilitation camp for children with hemophilia has been organized by the Czech Hemophilia Society for many years, and we consider it one of the Society's key events. Every year, children with hemophilia, von Willebrand disease, and carriers of these rare bleeding disorders participate. Attendees come from all over the Czech Republic, and there is great interest in the stay. This only confirms the importance and benefit of the event. The program has proven itself and helps participants in what matters most -- improving their health and thereby their quality of life. The top priority is the education of children with hemophilia and von Willebrand disease, practice of intravenous administration, and individual and group physiotherapy. All of this takes place under the guidance of experienced specialists from among physicians, nurses, and physiotherapists, not only from the University Hospital Brno. We consider the educational component particularly significant, as participants gain a clear awareness of the benefits of medication administration, including intravenous application. They learn this precisely at our camp, where they are under constant professional supervision of medical staff and are instructed in proper injection technique and medication handling, which is an important part of home treatment.

To be able to fulfill the goals of this stay, unique facilities are also necessary. It is essential for us that the Jasenka Recreation Centre meets all our requirements perfectly: facilities for a treatment room, individual and group physiotherapy, cabins equipped with bathrooms, an on-site kitchen, communal spaces for educational programs with physicians and physiotherapists. There is also a pond, as swimming is one of the most important and most recommended forms of exercise for children, and last but not least, the secure grounds of the complex where we can keep the children under constant supervision.

Over the years, Jasenka has become a place close to our hearts, and thanks to its accommodating and helpful staff, we always enjoy coming back and will continue to do so.

Due to the overall increase in costs, accommodation fees have risen. The cost per person is CZK 1,100 per day. We note that the complex is reserved exclusively for our group! The Czech Hemophilia Society Council has traditionally approved the following price levels:

  • CZK 6,000 for participants with hemophilia or von Willebrand disease

  • CZK 8,000 for their siblings and friends

The fees are set so that participants with hemophilia or von Willebrand disease receive a preferential rate.

The camp fee includes:

  • Accommodation, meals (5 times daily + all-day beverages)

  • Basic accident insurance

  • Transport for trips

  • Overall camp operation

Registration of children for the camp is possible via this electronic form. Within 14 days of submitting the form, expect an email confirmation that we have recorded your registration. If you do not receive a confirmation, please contact us at the email address dada.simi@seznam.cz, or by phone at (+420) 731 557 526 (Daniel Simek). The registration deadline is 31 May 2024. If you are interested in attending the camp, do not delay your registration. Children who have completed at least the first grade of primary school may attend; the upper age limit is 18 years. As is traditional, we are organizing joint transport from Prague and, if there is sufficient interest, also from Ostrava with stops on the outskirts of Olomouc and Brno. All transport now requires a financial contribution from the travellers.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at the details listed above.
