Podcast with Zdeněk Březina

Dozens of bleeds per month, long hospital stays, limb immobilisation in plaster casts, and no painkillers. That was the childhood of hemophilia patient Zdeněk Březina, who grew up during the era of deep socialism. Despite these experiences, he is a great life optimist, and as he says himself, thanks to modern medicines his great life dream finally came true.

Zdeněk Březina first heard his diagnosis of severe hemophilia B at the age of six. Many of the treatment methods he had to undergo as a child were not only ineffective and painful, but according to current knowledge, they were actually harmful. The hardships associated with frequent bleeding and hospital stays were helped by his parents and siblings. He also found great support in his wife, who moreover became a great life inspiration for him. Although seriously ill herself, she never complained about her fate, and through timely intervention she even saved her husband's life.
