In the second part of a special two-part episode of the Na vlastní žíly podcast, we meet with Kateřina Altmanová (Hemojunior) and Martin Bohůn (Czech Haemophilia Society). Together they talk about the importance of patient organisations, summer haemophilia camps, challenges and hopes related to funding, and inspiring stories of people who show that you can live life to the fullest with haemophilia.

The guests are Kateřina Altmanová, chairwoman of Hemojunior, and Martin Bohůn, chairman of the Czech Haemophilia Society. They openly discuss what it means to lead a patient organisation today, how difficult it is to raise funds, but also what great joy and meaning this work brings them. You will learn why camps and reconditioning stays have irreplaceable value – and not only for children, but also for parents, siblings and entire families.

Stories worth listening to.

You will hear, for example, the story of a four-year-old boy who learned for the first time at camp to administer his medicine himself – a moment that changed his family's life and gave them a huge dose of self-confidence. Or the story of an expedition to Mont Blanc, where people with haemophilia showed that limits can be pushed if one is responsible, supported and determined. These moments prove that haemophilia is not an obstacle, but a challenge that can be lived actively and courageously.

What will you take away?

  • Hope and motivation that haemophilia need not prevent an active life.
  • An overview of what opportunities for education and sharing exist – from children's camps to intergenerational meetings.
  • Inspiration to get involved in community events or support patient organisations.
  • Reassurance that even though healthcare doesn't always have enough time, patient activities can give families practical knowledge and a sense of security.
