Autumn Rehabilitation Retreat for Adults Took Place in the Třeboň Region

Due to spring government restrictions, we were forced to postpone the rehabilitation retreat for adult hemophilia patients to the turn of summer and autumn. Just before departure, we were once again worried whether everything would take place and under what conditions. In the end, however, almost everything worked out. The change of date and health complications of some registrants meant we did not fill the facility's capacity and did not beat last year's record in the number of participants. Even so, 40 people is a very respectable number. Nearly half were hemophilia or Von Willebrand patients. And if we include carriers in the count of hemophilia patients, we exceeded the halfway mark.

The selected hotel is situated in a quiet location between Třeboň and Jindřichův Hradec. It thus offered plenty of opportunities for interesting excursions. We visited, among others, the above-mentioned towns and their attractions (castles, the 15th meridian, a boat trip on Svět Pond, the Třeboň tower, the brewery, etc.), the Na Hrádečku and Hluboká zoos. Hluboká and Červená Lhota chateaux, the mushroom world, a vintage car museum, and more. The nice weather allowed walks around the area and mushroom foraging in the forest. Some, however, missed the option of stepping out on their own for ice cream or coffee, as the hotel was practically in isolation. This may also contribute to the hotel's condition, or rather its unrealised potential. Everyone has different standards and views on cleanliness and the culture of the environment, so we will not evaluate it further. However, the swimming pool was a great disappointment for us. Contaminated and ice-cold water, as well as the surroundings of the pool, essentially prevented its use. In terms of rehabilitation, we therefore had to make do with individual physiotherapy only. That, however, was once again at the highest level. Every hemophilia patient was allocated three-quarters of an hour daily for intensive exercise. During the stay, we also underwent an InBody body composition analysis and could thus reflect not only on our weight, but especially on our muscle mass and metabolic age.

There was no shortage of shared evenings with various social games, guitar and singing, or simple discussion. Despite minor shortcomings, we all enjoyed the stay and are looking forward to the next one. It will take place again at a different location, which has not yet been decided. However, we will most likely meet in the Vysočina Highlands at Hotel Bystré, at a slightly earlier date than usual, from 8 to 14 May 2021. Follow our website, we will inform you about the location and date in the first months of the year.
