A Successful Change

The regular May rehabilitation retreat is already behind us for this year. As we announced in advance, this time it was in a different setting than in previous years. Not only did we move from Lednice after five years, but for the first time in the history of these stays we also moved away from a spa town. The Ohrada guesthouse in Vísky u Letovic was to replace it. It offers everything we need for our purposes, including meeting rooms, rehabilitation facilities, a swimming pool, and whirlpools. Including accommodation all under one roof. Comfort thus increased not only for the organizers, who did not have to prepare breakfast every morning, but also for participants, as they no longer had to walk anywhere. We especially appreciated this on days when the weather was not on our side.

The change of location managed to attract more participants with families. For children, Ohrada offered an enclosed facility with a playground, trampoline, sandbox, and also horse riding. Some adults also saddled up, for that matter.

The program again revolved mainly around daily rehabilitation. Everyone had access to whirlpools and a swimming pool. Although the guesthouse operators were unable to provide the promised lift, the pool was not denied to anyone. For those who were unable to get into the pool on their own, and especially to get out of it, local strongmen were ready to help, transferring them in and out of the pool on a chair.

The accompanying program consisted mainly of social games and a three-day table tennis tournament. The tournament confirmed that it is not always important to win, but to participate. Valuable prizes were awarded not only to the medalists but also to those at the very bottom of the standings.

Although the nearby surroundings did not offer as many walking opportunities as Lednice, we were not confined to the guesthouse. There we also took a tour of their own brewery, but for other excursions we drove by car and visited, among other things, Letovice Castle, the Punkva Caves, and the now traditional bowling.

Conversations with most participants confirmed that the choice of location was a success and that our stay here was not the last, so we have already reserved a spot for next year. Those interested can therefore reserve the dates from 12 to 20 May 2017.
