Week-Long Reconditioning Stay in Lednice
ČSH

Last week saw another edition of the reconditioning stay for adults. You can learn more about it from the contribution below. The organisers can confirm that the event was once again a success, and we thank the participants and especially the physiotherapists who took care of them. We have already reserved a date for 2013 -- 17 to 25 May. Those interested can therefore plan their holiday well in advance. On behalf of the organisers, Michal Skorepa looks forward to the next edition.
A thank-you note from a participant
A few days ago I returned from the reconditioning stay for people with haemophilia in Lednice. I am once again (as every year) full of impressions and would like to share them with you.
The event took place from 18 to 26 May at the municipal guesthouse in Lednice. It may not be the right thing to say, but I take it for granted that we were accommodated in a barrier-free facility, that we were treated to excellent food, and that we had the opportunity to fill our free time with cultural, social, or sporting activities. Important, not just for me, was the offer of spa procedures such as: whirlpool baths, hydromassage, iodine-bromine baths, and bubble baths. One could relax and float in the water, then come or ride back to the guesthouse. There, two of the best physiotherapists I have ever had the chance to meet in my life were waiting: Nada and Ala. These two skilled therapists contributed with their expertise, sensitivity, and above all their experience with people with haemophilia to making one feel almost as if in paradise. I am exaggerating a little, but they really did exercise with us exactly what we asked for. It was very pleasant and after overcoming the initial pain, one felt great. (If they had just stroked us, it would certainly have been more pleasant, but we would hardly have mobilised anything.) We exercised daily, but I did not notice a single case of someone saying that "there was too much exercise" or that someone had to treat a bleed because of the exercises. I would not want to mislead anyone into thinking that we all mobilised all our affected joints. Miracles do not happen that often with people with haemophilia. In 9 days, nobody can expect anything like that. But it has been scientifically proven that when a person with haemophilia feels good and is free of stress, they also have fewer bleeds. This was the main reason I participated, and I can responsibly say that I did the right thing in going to Lednice without hesitation.
Just a brief list of the activities on offer: a bowling tournament, a Tantrix tournament, barbecue, a visit to the Austrian Thermal Spa Laa, evenings full of spontaneous jokes, cultural monuments in the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape.
For all of this, thanks go to the great group of people with haemophilia who participated, especially Zdenek and Ruda -- the pillars of our group, the aforementioned physiotherapists Nada and Ala. And to the one who prepared everything for everyone else -- Michal Skorepa.
Many thanks to all. Bedrich Smrcka
